Another great experience! Met with HLCRS to purchase a wig. She was very attentive and pleasant to work with. The wig that I selected was expertly customized to my face. This is the third wig that I have purchased from HLCRS. Each and every time that I wear one of these wigs, I always receive multiple wonderful comments. People think it’s my own hair!

As usual, my visit to HLCRS was enjoyable …I went in an ugly duckling and came out a beautifully coiffed lady. I thank HLCRS for her advice regarding the care of my hair and for the products she recommended.

The Causes of Hair Loss

hair-loss-infoPart of its wide prevalence is due to its variety of causes. Hair loss can be caused by genetics (some people are predisposed to it) by hormones (in some men, hair loss can start as early as puberty); by medical conditions such as scalp infections, skin disorders, or thyroid issues; and by medications (especially those used to treat cancer, arthritis, high blood pressure, and arthritis). Hair loss can also be caused by physical or emotional shock; by a hair pulling mental disorder; and even by certain hairstyles that pull the hair too tightly.

The Risk Factors of Hair Loss
Whether or not a person loses their hair depends on several risk factors. Some of these – like family history – are out of a person’s control. However some, such as the overuse of hair treatments, a lifestyle of poor nutrition, or prescription drug use are things a person can chose whether or not to do.

Sexual Side Effects
There are some risks with sexual side effects while using hair loss medications like Propecia, Finasteride or Duasteride, which include:

  • Decreased libido
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Ejaculation disorder
  • Male infertility or poor quality of semen
  • Male breast cancer
  • Decreased ejaculatory volume because of predominant action of DHT on prostate
  • Male Infertility

These problems persisted anytime from 3-40 months after the men ceased treatment of these drugs. Salmetto is all-natural and does not put men at risk for sexual side effects as many other hair growth supplements and medications do.

Male Versus Female Baldness
Though men and women can both experience hair loss, they tend to exhibit different patterns. For men, the first sign of hair loss is a receding hairline and possibly thinning around the crown. If treatment isn’t pursued, the hair follicles will continue to die and result in more baldness. In females, hair loss begins with hair thinning across the center of the scalp. If treatment is delayed, the thinning can spread, ultimately growing into the side areas of the scalp and the area above the ears. It’s possible, though rare, that some women can even end up with total baldness.

The Age of Hair Loss
Hair loss is often equated with age. However, it is not reserved for the elderly and not even for the middle-aged. The American Hair Loss Association reports that, for two thirds of men, hair loss occurs to some degree by the age of 35. By the age of 50, more than four out of five men will have hair that has grown significantly thinner. Some people even experience hair loss in their teen years.
